Questions
Solar cancellation FAQ.
You probably have a lot of questions about how solar contract cancellation works. These answers cover the ones we hear most, from how long it takes to how it affects your credit, so you can make an informed decision.
The process
How long does the process take?
Most cases resolve in under 12 months, but we advise allowing up to 24 months depending on the complexity of your contract.
Do you handle the entire process?
We facilitate the qualification and proposal process. Once you’re onboarded, you’ll be assigned an account manager to handle your case.
What documents will I need?
Your signed solar agreement, utility bills from before and after installation, your loan or lease documents, and any emails or messages with the installer, lender or finance company. Missing something? We’ll help you gather it.
What do you look for in my contract?
Misrepresentations or omissions, contract violations, hidden terms that weren’t disclosed, and any clauses that may give you cancellation leverage. See every step of the process.
Will I have to deal with the solar company myself?
No. Our team negotiates with the solar company to get you out of your contract, and the legal team monitors your matter every step of the way.
Qualifying
How do I know if I qualify?
Every contract is different. Whether cancellation is possible depends on how your agreement was structured, what you were told at the time of sale, how your system has performed and the documents you have. Not every contract qualifies, and the free consultation is how you find out.
What kinds of solar agreements can you help with?
Solar loans, leases and power purchase agreements (PPAs), including contracts with misleading terms, escalating payments, or an installer that’s no longer in business.
What if the solar company is out of business?
If your solar company is out of business, we can still help you get out of your contract. The first step is to see whether your contract qualifies for cancellation.
What if my contract doesn’t qualify?
We’ll tell you plainly. We only move forward when we believe a legitimate cancellation path exists, and the consultation costs you nothing either way.
Is the consultation really free?
Yes. The initial consultation and qualification review are free, with no obligation. We review your situation, explain your options clearly, and you decide how to proceed.
Do you work in my state?
We help homeowners across the United States. Request a free review and we’ll look at your contract wherever you live.
Cost and credit
How much does it cost?
The consultation is free. If you qualify for our services, the fees, payment terms and everything else that matters are set out in a written service agreement before you enroll. We offer ACH, credit card and third-party financing, and your representative walks you through the options.
Will this affect my credit?
Credit protection is part of the program. We provide ongoing support to help protect your credit during the process, including dispute filing, documentation and guidance.
What does the money-back guarantee cover?
Full contract review and cancellation efforts, credit protection services, ongoing project management and status updates, and a full refund of program fees if we don’t cancel your contract within 24 months, as long as you meet the guarantee’s conditions. Read the guarantee.
Should I just stop paying my solar loan?
Talk to us before you do anything drastic. A solar loan is a financial agreement, and stopping payments without understanding it can create new problems instead of solving the old ones. A review helps you understand what your agreement requires, who services it and what paths may exist. Read the guide.
Your home and bills
Can I sell my house with a solar contract?
Often, yes, but a solar contract can complicate the sale. Buyers may hesitate to take on an agreement they didn’t negotiate, lenders look closely at solar obligations, and transfers aren’t always approved. If you’re planning to sell or refinance, have your contract reviewed before you list. Read the guide.
Why am I getting two power bills?
Because solar rarely replaces your utility completely. You pay a fixed monthly solar payment, plus a utility bill for the power you still draw at night and on cloudy days, along with connection and delivery fees. If you were promised “100% offset,” that’s worth a review. Read the guide.
My installer went bankrupt. Doesn’t that end my contract?
Usually not. Financing agreements typically stay in effect, payments continue, and servicing rights may be transferred to another company. But an installer that’s gone doesn’t mean you’re out of options. Read the guide.
About us
Are you a solar company?
No. We don’t sell panels and we don’t repair equipment. We help homeowners get out of solar contracts that aren’t serving them.
Are you a law firm?
No. National Solar Review Association is not a law firm and doesn’t provide legal advice. When we mention legal review or legal support, we mean independent legal professionals or authorized service providers who work on your matter under their own agreement with you.
How do I know I can trust you?
Fair question, especially after a bad sales experience. We back our program with a written 24-month money-back guarantee, and you’ll never be rushed or pressured. You can reach us at a real address and phone number, Monday through Friday.
You deserve a way out. We’ll help you find it.
